Reflections

It's day 2 at work after CNY.

Day 1:
As part of the CNY festive season, the F3 group, led by Elder Xie and his wife, visited the elderly residents in the Geylang Serai district. We (the trio) joined them in their quest to complete visitations to almost 20 odd residential units, covering more than 5 blocks of HDB, and over 40 elderlies.

It was hard work indeed. 4 hours of continuous walking up and down the stairs, taking lifts, figuring out where the floor and 3-digit unit numbers were located. But at every unit we distributed oranges and promotional leaflets, I could feel the warmth and gratitude expressed on their worn and aged being. To us it may be something simple,'draggy', and a pure chore, after making visits to over 20 units. However, the presence meant much to the residents, as we show our care and exchanged CNY blessings.

We proceeded to Marine Parade for late lunch, and we had a simple 'welcome' lunch by Sis Rachel. Guess what the treat was. Chicken rice. Haha, I kept pestering her it must be at least Tung Lok quality..and she just shrugged it off with a 'stare' and the classic 'look' ahahx.

For our daily devotion, we settled on ODJ over ODB. After briefly flipping through the ODJ contents, I am inspired by the pictures that were taken to support each day's message. I have recently picked up photography, and looking at those pictures I've now experienced what impact great pictures have on the viewer's senses and soul.

Day 2:
Began the day with singsperation. Each of us (4 musketeers) chose a song and lead. It was a good refreshing time to start on leading singsperation. Been out of touch with it.

Anyways, we headed to BB HQ at Granges Road to collect the name tags for the 16J BB cohort at Kwang Hua School. As usual, I was the Veh Comd in Dan's 'Fu Yin' car, and led him through cross st's thin bridge that directly links to People's Park. He was amused at the bridge. I admit I probably felt the same when I first knew that it was not a carpark entrance, but in fact was an actual road leading elsewhere.

Lunch was at Tiong Bahru Market. We coincidently met Dan's mum and relatives. He insisted that his mum's stalking him, from previous experiences. We found it amusing and interesting. God's sending His people to watch over us.

Next stop was ITE Macpherson. THe proposed venue we had in mind was at the open space near the entrance. It was an semi-enclosed concourse. We concluded it was ideal. Not too big, and not to clustered or crammed. Only thing left was how to run the programme, and integrate youth-elderly interactions.

The BB parade scheduled to start at 2pm. The entire process was rather smooth. It feels lively to be with children. They seem to possess endless supplies of energy. And I can see the trend of kids over-relying on their maids and mothers. I refused to have my maid accompany me to wait for the school bus on the first morning of school in Pri 1. And I'll put my own clothes into my bag if I need it the next day. All about preparations.

But on the whole, it was revitalising to be leading games, immersing in the waves of cheers and laughter from the young BB boys. I even had my first lesson of drills with them. I enjoyed being with them. It reminds me of the fun and enjoyment I had as a young kid. I probably wasn't as 'hyper' as they were now, but I had my deal of fun.

Plenty of things have happened since I last entered an entry.

Christmas 09
With the usual caroling and service in church. A night by the reservoir when I started a prayer for renewal. Family gathering and my grandma enjoyed the onion chicken which I dished out for her.

New Year 10
Catch-ups with Si Min and JC mates. Watched fireworks with my parents (from home TV hahaha). My mum was ill that night, so I couldn't bring her to watch it live..there're always more opportunities and plenty more new years to come!

Handing over of duties in camp
Ever since my under-study came, I tried to take on an instructional role to guide him in being a top-notch officer. And I'm sure he'll do well.

Granddad's last moments
Flew over to Taiwan right after finishing an outfield to see my granddad in the hospital. This is my first time travelling overseas alone. Everything went smooth and I experienced death in front of my eyes. Peaceful and full of grace. My granddad and family is blessed. According to my mother, before he went into a coma, he said the word, "Hallelujah!". And when I spoke over the phone to him (I was still in SG then), my mum said he smiled. He returned to the house of the Lord at 7.23pm (heard the nurse put it at 7.28pm because they followed the ECG machine) according both mine and grandma's watches. He was 93 years old (but if its by the chinese calender, then it's 92 years of age)

ORD (Official Release Date)
I realised I kinda miss my camp and the life there. Not implying that I wish to sign on to the army. It is an experience of a kind. Never have I been out to the field so often, leading men to battles in forests, hills, and built-up areas, teaching them to be good soldiers that fight for their unit, buddy, and country.

Now its time to move on, and continue my journey of learning.
